600-Volt Switchgear Buyers

Surplus Valve Buyer buys eligible used and surplus switchgear through individual lot review. If you have a retired 600V-class lineup, unused distribution sections or gear removed from a documented 600Y/347V system, contact our Houston-based independent surplus buying business. The important question is not simply whether a label says 600 volts. We need to understand what assembly you are selling, its actual ratings, its condition and what remains with it. Purchase eligibility and sale terms are confirmed for each lot.

Offer the lineup, not just a voltage label

Tell us whether your surplus consists of a complete lineup, one main section, several feeder sections or matching drawout power breakers. Include the manufacturer, product family and approximate section count when known. A project cancellation may leave unused equipment, while a facility upgrade may produce operating equipment that has been safely retired. Describe those histories separately rather than calling every lot new surplus.

Identify which breakers belong to which compartments and whether the bus connections between sections remain available. That helps define the equipment offered for review without suggesting that every section or spare will be purchased. Keep unrelated assets out of the description so the conversation stays focused on your switchgear.

600V class and the actual service voltage

A 600V-class description does not establish the voltage of the system where an assembly operated. Separate the former nominal system voltage from the assembly's marked rating and any published maximum operating voltage. Eaton's Magnum DS technical data, for example, lists a 600V system voltage with a 635V maximum in its voltage-rating table. Those figures describe that product documentation, not every surplus assembly.

If the gear came from a 480V installation but carries a higher equipment rating, say so. Conversely, do not assume an assembly is suitable for an actual 600V service because one installed component says 600V. The assembly identification and the ratings of its installed devices need to be reviewed together. Existing drawings are useful when the operating history is unclear.

Recognizing Canadian 600Y/347V equipment

Canadian sellers may describe their service as 347/600V or 600Y/347V. Continental Control Systems identifies 600Y/347V as a three-phase, four-wire wye service: 600V between lines and 347V from line to neutral. Its application reference notes that 347/600V is common in western Canada and also identifies 600V delta service. Canada alone therefore does not establish the connection type.

Preserve the exact voltage notation in your sale description, including the Y and slash where marked. Report the documented phase, wire and neutral arrangement instead of shortening everything to 600V. A breaker marking is useful supporting information, but it is not a substitute for identifying the complete assembly or its former service.

Continuous bus amperes are not breaker trip amperes

The main bus continuous-current rating describes a different characteristic from a breaker's frame size, sensor rating or trip setting. Eaton's Magnum DS tables list cross-bus ampacity separately from vertical-bus ampacity and short-circuit bus bracing. A documented 2,000A bus rating is an example of information a seller can report; it is not a purchase threshold or a promise that every voltage and ampere combination is eligible.

For installed breakers, retain the catalog number and distinguish frame amperes from the fitted sensor or rating plug. An adjustable long-delay pickup setting is another separate detail. Do not describe the entire lineup by the largest breaker frame, or add feeder ratings together to invent a bus rating. Record what the assembly and breaker documentation actually state.

Keep fault-current ratings and BIL separate

A kA figure is not the continuous bus current. Breaker interrupting ratings and assembly short-circuit withstand or bracing ratings describe different fault-related capabilities. Eaton publishes breaker interrupting values by voltage and lists short-time withstand separately. When reporting a fault rating, include its label and voltage rather than sending an isolated number such as 65kA.

Basic insulation level, or BIL, concerns impulse-voltage withstand, not fault-current interruption. Eaton's insulation-coordination reference treats it as an insulation withstand characteristic. Do not assign a BIL value to 600V switchgear from a medium-voltage catalog or treat it as another name for the kA rating. If a rating is undocumented, identify it as unknown.

UL and Canadian markings need individual review

Report the exact certification or inspection marks on the assembly, not just the manufacturer logo. The Standards Council of Canada explains that electrical products must meet Canadian codes and standards and be certified or inspected by an SCC-accredited body. A US-oriented UL description should not be presented as proof of Canadian approval without checking the applicable marking and documentation.

Likewise, Canadian-marked gear is not automatically accepted for a US purchase or future installation. Our surplus purchasing decision is separate from approval for a destination project. Disclose replacement devices, altered sections and missing labels. Neither a recognized mark nor a familiar brand guarantees that Surplus Valve Buyer will buy a particular lot.

Condition and completeness affect the sale discussion

Give a straightforward account of storage, removal and known damage. Distinguish indoor storage from weather exposure, and disclose flooding, corrosion, missing breakers or changes to the original configuration. Existing maintenance records can help explain the history, but previously operating equipment should not be described as currently tested unless you have documentation supporting that statement.

Mention whether doors, covers, drawout cradles, trip units and section-joining hardware remain with the lot. Keep removed parts identified with their original sections where practical and safe. Age, condition and market demand can influence surplus buying decisions; another buyer's advertised offer does not establish the value of your equipment. We confirm any proposed price against the specific lot being offered.

US and Canadian lots have conditional logistics

We welcome discussions about US and Canadian surplus, but location is part of the lot review. State the city, country and whether the switchgear is still installed or already staged. Explain access restrictions and any deadline for clearing the space. Do not ship equipment or arrange a cross-border move before purchase eligibility and responsibilities are agreed.

For an accepted lot, the parties must confirm removal, loading, packaging, freight and payment terms. A Canadian inquiry does not include a promise of duty-free entry, paid freight or free pickup. Any customs documentation, brokerage, taxes or duties associated with a proposed crossing require confirmation for that transaction. Keep the proposed sale price separate from assumptions about transportation costs.

Start safely with a call or email

Call (951)403-5738 or email industrial832@gmail.com with a brief description of your surplus. You do not need to open equipment or produce new test results to begin. Existing inventory lists, accessible exterior identification and drawings can support the discussion. If information is missing, tell us what is unknown rather than exposing yourself to electrical hazards to complete a quote request.

Only qualified personnel following applicable site procedures should handle electrical decommissioning. OSHA's electrical work-practice rules address isolation, lockout or tagging and qualified verification of the deenergized condition. Do not open or live-test energized gear for this sale. Surplus Valve Buyer is an independent buyer, not an assertion of manufacturer affiliation or a guarantee of removal services. Contact us before committing the lot elsewhere.

Seller questions

Selling your switchgear

Who buys used 600-volt switchgear?

Surplus Valve Buyer reviews eligible used and surplus 600V-class switchgear for purchase. We are a Houston-based independent surplus buyer. Call (951)403-5738 or email industrial832@gmail.com to discuss the manufacturer, lineup configuration, condition and location. An inquiry starts review; it does not guarantee an offer or acceptance.

Can I sell gear removed from a Canadian 600Y/347V system?

You can contact us about a Canadian lot. Preserve the exact system and equipment markings, including 600Y/347V where documented. Canadian origin does not guarantee eligibility, destination approval or a cross-border transaction. Purchase terms and any removal, freight or customs responsibilities must be confirmed for the lot.

Is a 600V breaker enough to identify the switchgear?

No. A single breaker label does not establish the assembly's voltage rating, continuous bus amperes, fault withstand or original service arrangement. Include the assembly identification and any available drawings. Also distinguish breaker frame size from sensor, rating-plug and trip details without opening energized equipment.

Do I need photos or electrical tests before calling?

No photos or new tests are required to start the conversation. Describe what you know and identify missing information. Existing records may support later review. Never open or live-test energized switchgear for a sale inquiry; qualified personnel must manage safe decommissioning under applicable procedures.
