Non-slam axial nozzle check valves and dual-plate wafer check valves from recognized manufacturers—including Crane Duo-Chek, Cameron, Velan, Powell, Goodwin, and DFT—command the highest secondary prices. Heavy forged steel Class 800 and 1500 piston check valves in matching box quantities are also highly liquid. Valves with intact hinge pins, uncracked internal springs, and documented NACE MR0175 compliance achieve rapid appraisals.
Field inspection and defect screening protocol
Remove flange covers and inspect the internal clapper, disc, or piston. Push the disc open gently by hand (never pry with metal tools) to verify that the hinge pin moves freely and that the disc seats squarely against the body ring. On spring-assisted dual-plate valves, verify that both torsion springs are intact and uncorroded. Photograph the internal bore, seat ring, casting markings, and manufacturer nameplate.
Flange protection, packaging, and freight handling
Check valves must be blocked with timber or foam dunnage inside the bore to prevent internal clappers or plates from slamming back and forth during highway vibration. Secure heavy plastic or wooden flange protectors over all open ports. Package smaller threaded and socket-weld check valves in sturdy corrugated cartons on pallets; skid-mount large flanged units.
Send photographs before modifying the equipment. Preserve original tags, flange faces, packing, wiring, tubing, operators, and documentation. If prior service or condition is unknown, say so directly. A precise unknown is more credible than a guessed specification.
