Examine the disc and seat ring through the end ports. Check for wire drawing, erosion grooves, or steam cutting across the seating interface. Stroke the handwheel to verify that the acme stem threads are straight and lubricated. Check for stem packing leakage staining around the gland follower. Photograph the valve body casting markings, bonnet flange, and identification plate.
Flange protection, packaging, and freight handling
Globe valves must be shipped in the fully closed position to protect the machined plug disc and internal seat ring from mechanical vibration during transit. Install heavy plastic or wooden flange covers over both ports. Secure large valves to hardwood pallets with steel banding, chocking the body to maintain stability.
Send photographs before modifying the equipment. Preserve original tags, flange faces, packing, wiring, tubing, operators, and documentation. If prior service or condition is unknown, say so directly. A precise unknown is more credible than a guessed specification.
