Sell Surplus Knife Gate Valves

Knife gate valves are engineered specifically for challenging viscous, fibrous, and slurry media that would quickly jam standard wedge gate or ball valves. Featuring sharpened gate edges that slice through settled solids, pulp stock, and mineral tailings, these valves are workhorses across paper mills, wastewater plants, and mining processing facilities. We evaluate manual handwheel, chainwheel, pneumatic cylinder, and electric motor-actuated units in all standard ASME and MSS configurations.

Buyer’s notes

What matters when selling knife gate valves.

Knife gate resale demand splits cleanly between lightweight lugged/wafer designs for low-pressure wastewater service and heavy-duty bidirectional polyurethane- or elastomer-sleeved slurry valves built for mining tailings. High-value units typically feature heavy cast or fabricated stainless steel gates (316L, 17-4 PH, or 254 SMO) with zero scoring across the seating face. Deflection-resistant yokes, intact packing glands, and functional pneumatic cylinders with clean chrome rods represent prime resale assets.

Secondary market valuation and demand drivers

Severe-service slurry valves from premium manufacturers such as Clarkson, DeZURIK, and Orbinox consistently command strong secondary valuation due to persistent mining and industrial demand. Heavy pneumatic cylinders with magnetic reed switches, fail-safe spring systems, and clean rod plating substantially increase lot value. Conversely, thin utility knife gates with deeply pitted blades, bent yokes, or cracked cast-iron bodies carry primarily scrap value.

Field inspection and defect screening protocol

Inspect the blade edge and surface for transverse gouges, wire drawing, or warping that would prevent a tight packing seal. Check the packing box area for heavy external chemical scaling or gate binding. For slurry sleeve valves, inspect the perimeter elastomer liners for tearing, chunking, or hardening. Photograph the valve from both faces, showing the gate in the fully retracted and fully closed positions, alongside legible nameplate tags and cylinder serial numbers.

Flange protection, packaging, and freight handling

Knife gate valves must be shipped in the fully closed position to protect the polished gate surface from impact damage, airborne grit, and bending loads during transit. Pneumatic cylinders and extended yokes must be properly cribbed with timber blocking to eliminate cantilever stress during road transit. Multiple units must be palletized flat or secured in custom vertical crating with gate faces separated by cardboard or plywood dividers.

Send photographs before modifying the equipment. Preserve original tags, flange faces, packing, wiring, tubing, operators, and documentation. If prior service or condition is unknown, say so directly. A precise unknown is more credible than a guessed specification.

We assess equipment for purchase based on the available resale path and the cost of verification, handling, storage, and transportation. Submission does not guarantee an offer, but complete information allows a faster and more useful response.

Knife Gate Valves seller FAQ

These answers describe our review process. They are not engineering, inspection, certification, or installation advice.

MSS SP-81 valves are typically unidirectional, bonnetless, wafer/lugged valves rated for 150 psi water/liquid service. Slurry knife gate valves feature heavy dual-elastomer sleeves, bidirectional zero-leakage shutoff, and heavy-duty frames built for abrasive solids. We buy both styles actively.
