What matters when selling plug valves.
The plug valve market separates into three distinct industrial categories: (1) High-pressure lubricated tapered plug valves (such as Nordstrom or Flowserve) rated from Class 150 to Class 2500 for oil, gas, and asphalt service; (2) Non-lubricated PTFE-sleeved plug valves (such as Durco T-Line or XOMOX) for corrosive chemical processes; and (3) Eccentric plug valves (such as DeZURIK) for wastewater sludge.
Secondary market valuation and demand drivers
Premium chemical-process non-lubricated sleeved plug valves from Flowserve Durco, XOMOX (Crane), and Richter retain exceptional secondary liquidity due to multi-month factory backlogs. High-pressure lubricated plug valves from Nordstrom, Cameron, and Walworth used in gas gathering and pipeline manifolds also achieve strong buyout values. Gear-operated valves and valves equipped with pneumatic actuators command higher offers than bare-stem units.
Field inspection and defect screening protocol
For lubricated plug valves, inspect the sealant injection fitting on the stem to verify it is unstripped and that the plug turns smoothly when torque is applied. For PTFE-sleeved chemical valves, inspect the wetted port faces: the fluoropolymer sleeve must be smooth, free of cuts, chemical gouging, or cold flow. Photograph the valve body, port bore, casting markings, and manufacturer nameplate.
Flange protection, packaging, and freight handling
Plug valves must be shipped in the 100% fully open position to protect the polished plug sealing surfaces inside the body housing. Install heavy plastic or plywood flange covers over all ports to prevent grit and moisture ingress. Timber-chock round valve bodies on heavy hardwood pallets; secure with steel banding.
Send photographs before modifying the equipment. Preserve original tags, flange faces, packing, wiring, tubing, operators, and documentation. If prior service or condition is unknown, say so directly. A precise unknown is more credible than a guessed specification.
