For unused surplus, verify that port caps or thread protectors are in place and that the internal mechanism rattles freely when inverted (standard for bucket traps). For strainers, remove the blow-off plug or cover to confirm screen presence, mesh size, and absence of crushed wire cloth. Photograph body castings, stamped differential pressure ratings (e.g., max 150 psi vs 600 psi differential), and complete box labels.
Flange protection, packaging, and freight handling
Small threaded and socket-weld traps should be packed in heavy corrugated master cartons, palletized, and shrink-wrapped. Heavy cast steel basket and duplex strainers must be bolted to heavy timber skids or pallet decks with flange faces protected by plywood or heavy plastic covers. Disclose total pallet weights and stackability to optimize LTL freight classification.
Send photographs before modifying the equipment. Preserve original tags, flange faces, packing, wiring, tubing, operators, and documentation. If prior service or condition is unknown, say so directly. A precise unknown is more credible than a guessed specification.
